Program Information
Description
Abington Lacrosse Club serves boys in grades 1-8 from Abington Township (PA) and surrounding communities. ALC offers programs for developing, recreational, and elite players in 4 grade based divisions (see below).
SEPYLA
ALC Travel Teams compete in SEPYLA, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association. www.SEPYLA.org.
Eligibility
Participation on any ALC travel team (As, Bs, and C1s) is governed by SEPYLA. SEPYLA specifies that players must play for the club representing the township or school district where they reside. ALC will not accept TRAVEL players from areas represented by other SEPYLA clubs without a waiver from their home club. ALC will not request a waiver on behalf of a player - it is up to a player to seek a waiver from his home club.
ALC generally does not grant waiver requests and reserves the right to grant/deny a request for any/no reason.
Divisions / Teams
“A” Division (7th & 8th grades)
- ALC supports teams at 3 levels:
- A1s - Elite (see below for “Elite Team Commitment”)
- A2s - Experienced
- A3s – Novice & Beginners
- “A” Division Manager:
“B” Division (5th & 6th grades)
- ALC supports teams at 3 Levels:
- B1s - Elite (see below for “Elite Team Commitment”)
- B2s - Experienced
- B3s – Novice & Beginners
- “B” Division Manager:
“C” Division (3rd & 4th grades)
- C1s – Elite (see below for “Elite Team Commitment”)
- C1 Travel Team: A select group of 4th graders (and younger) are chosen each year to play on the ALC C1 travel team. The C Travel team plays in SEPYLA, a competitive, full contact league.
- “House League” (Intramurals) - Experienced, Novice & Beginners
- The House League provides 3rd and 4th graders with individual skill and team play instruction as well as a competitive outlet to hone these skills through Tuesday and Thursday practices and Saturday intramural games.
- The goal of this program is to foster the love of lacrosse and to help the kids develop the skills necessary to excel in the sport. The House League is a non-checking league. Teams are staffed by a combination of experienced coaches and interested parents. House League games are typically officiated by U.S. Lacrosse certified referees.
- Younger players may request to “play up” in the C Division based on experience and maturity. The club reserves the right to grant or deny any request for any reason.
- “C” Division Manager
“D” Division (1st & 2nd grades)
“Mighty D” Program - all levels
- The "D" Division consists of a clinic style program for 1st & 2nd graders that combines individual skill development with "pick-up" scrimmages. This is a non-competitive program focused on exposing kids to the sport and developing basic skills. The program runs on Saturday mornings during the spring.
- “D” Division Manager:
Elite Team Commitment
For ALC Elite Team (A1, B1, & C1) players, it is expected that lacrosse will be the player’s primary spring sport and that any outside schedule conflict will be decided in favor of the ALC commitment. This is especially important in light of the fact that the Elite teams will schedule a number of practices, games and tournaments that will not conform to a consistent weekly schedule.
Unlike for the Experienced, Novice, and Beginner level teams, Elite teams place a greater emphasis on the competitive nature of the game. As such, there are no guarantees for elite team players with respect to playing time or playing a favorite position.
Try-outs / Evaluations
Try-outs for Elite teams typically occur in late February and early March. Evaluations for placement on all other teams typically occur in early to mid March. The “D” program does not participate in evaluations. Check the web site for related postings
Registration
Registration for the Spring season typically kicks off in the Fall and extends through January 31st. Check the web site for related postings.
Cost
ALC is a 501c non profit organization. Registration Fees are charged to cover costs, which generally included uniforms, some tournament fees, Referee fees, team equipment (balls, nets, etc.), insurance, and membership to US Lacrosse (required). All players are responsible for their personal equipment.
